After 50 years of neglect and seven months of prodding, the County sent a crew to clean-out the Bel-Air Road water basin.
For those that don’t know, there is a bridge just past the East Gate. In 1973 the County constructed a large catch-basin for stormwater collection. Over the decades many tons of mud and debris have collected to, causing a restriction in water flow, along with mosquito issues, and a not so good smell. Additionally, we began to wonder if last years flooding at Copa De Oro and Bel-Air Road was caused by blockage.
After four days of grimy work, much of the half centuries worth of filth has been removed. The three-foot wide water lines were finally unclogged and thousands of gallons of pent-up waste water was finally released. We are hopeful this cleanout will solve a few of our stormwater issues by allowing our aged infrastructure to work better.
Additional clean-out is needed from the City, who have already begun that process.
